ROCKS

A rock is a natural solid composed of multiple crystals of one or more minerals.  Many rocks contain crystals of individual minerals but, a rock itself does not have an overall crystalline structure.  However, on this page you will also find our lapidary specimens.

RAINBOW OBSIDIAN
(VOLCANIC SILICA GLASS)

Obsidian is the result of rapid cooling of volcanic lava coming in contact with water.  It can contain air bubbles that are aligned along layers created as the molten rock was flowing that create interesting effects such as Rainbow Obsidian.  Iron and magnesium give obsidian it's color.
